2019 Spring Benefit Celebration

Join the Royal Irish Academy of Music in celebrating the very best of our young and exceptionally talented Irish musicians. All three of this evening’s performers are studying on scholarship at the Academy and are part of our Young Scholars’ Program. This program was established to give extra support to those children who have shown great focus, determination and a drive to excel. Children on the Young Scholars’ Program are given additional tuition, opportunities to participate in masterclasses, mentoring sessions and more performance opportunities – including this chance to perform at the American Irish Historical Society. These children take their musical craft very seriously and many will go on to be the international artists of tomorrow, performing on stages throughout the world.

Join Royal Irish Academy of Music Director Deborah Kelleher and two of RIAM's young operatic stars, along with special guests, on Thursday 18th October for an evening which explores the magical world of opera.

Deborah's vivacious commentary will ignite those moments, both sublime and ridiculous, that are to found in this Emperor of all art forms. Illuminating her insights, the young performers will perform popular excerpts from operas by Handel, Mozart, Donizetti, Purcell and Ireland's own opera composer, Michael Balfe.
